Metro Málaga Joins Rail Intel to Support Network Expansion Through Global System Insight

Rail Intel has welcomed Metro Málaga to its global light rail intelligence portal, as the operator continues to extend its network with new lines and future developments.

Following a platform demonstration, the Metro Málaga team confirmed access to Rail Intel to support live visibility across current projects, upcoming tenders, and extension activity, while also gaining insight into how comparable light rail systems are planning and delivering similar expansions worldwide.

“The Rail Intel portal gives us a clear view of both our own network developments and how other light rail systems around the world are evolving,” said Fernando Lozano, Director General at Metro Málaga. “The depth of data available, combined with the ability to track extensions, tenders, and comparable systems in one place, makes it a valuable tool for keeping our teams informed as our network grows.”

What resonated strongly during the demonstration was Rail Intel’s role as a global benchmarking and learning platform, enabling operators to compare system-level detail, track live developments, and understand how similar networks are approaching expansion.

“Rail Intel is designed to support operators at a practical level, not just by providing data, but by enabling comparison, learning, and informed decision-making,” said Andy Lucas, COO at Rail Intel. “Seeing Metro Málaga use the platform during an active period of network expansion highlights how global insight can directly support local delivery.”

Metro Málaga will use the portal to keep internal teams aligned on live developments and future plans, monitor new tenders and extension opportunities, benchmark their system against other light rail networks globally, and learn from how other operators are approaching network growth and delivery.

As part of the collaboration, Metro Málaga will also contribute live updates as their expansion progresses, ensuring Rail Intel continues to reflect real-world developments as they happen. Access has been provided on a complimentary basis as an operator of their system.

Rail Intel continues to expand its global operator network, supporting public authorities, operators, and the supply chain with qualified, continuously updated light rail market intelligence.
